Lock reflections

Lottie leading the way...

...with me trailing behind
It was a lovely sunny morning, so different to yesterday. I guess that’s why us British are so obsessed with the weather, you never know what each day will bring.

As we were about to set off a boat passed. Unfortunately that meant most locks were against us as we followed the boat down. Lottie Lurcher however enjoyed the improved weather and had several walks between the locks. She also had fun charging around the locks. At one lock she dug frantically into a mole hill scattering soil over the top of our boat. We finally caught sight of the boat ahead leaving the bottom of the fifth lock as we reached the top.
When we reached the top of the Bratch locks it was already in the middle lock going down. The lock keeper said we were next as no one was waiting at the bottom but he wanted to check the state of the side pounds first. After a ten minute wait he got us on our way with Lottie consenting to stay on the boat. After a speedy descent we passed through Bumblehole Lock and then moored up for lunch.
time to push
The day grew hot as we cruised after lunch. We descended two staircase locks and continued to lock regularly. Thankfully unlike other waterways the locks are mostly easy to operate although a couple had stiff paddle gear. Lottie enjoyed sniffing around but seemed tired after her morning’s frolics. The Captain also grew tired after working half of today’s fourteen locks but he’ll sleep well tonight.
Tenatious - fab name for a working boat
