It started raining lightly
while we had our breakfast so the Captain moved off as soon as we finished as
it was supposed to rain harder as the day went on. I did all the locking as the
Captain’s back was worse but they were not too bad.
The rain varied from
a light drizzle to almost non-existent mist. As it was warm it didn’t affect us
at all. After perching on the bow for a while Lottie lay at our feet on a deck that stayed almost dry helped by the
heat from the engine below. I was glad we cleared the busy road before it
bucketed down as it would have been noisy there but the heavy rain never came.
We moored below
Penkridge lock to have a short break as the rain threatened to be heavy. It was
a big mistake as five boats passed us all heading our way. We had an early
lunch and cast off at 11.40 even though heavy rain was forecast from 12.00.
The first lock queue
proved to be fast moving and the boats spread out so that by the third lock the
boat ahead had passed through before we arrived.

It started to rain
again and the wind picked up so it was colder. The Captain stopped at Acton Trussell
as it was a lovely spot and moored up. he wondered whether to move off again to
make tomorrow’s cruise back to the marina shorter but felt glad he didn’t move
when the rain grew heavier.
