IS IT THAT LONG SINCE CHRISTMAS?

“More mince pies?”

“No,” Granddad sighs.

“They give me grief

And stick in my teeth.

Have you any

Candied jelly

Or some Yule log?”

“Oh that’s in the dog,

And the trifle is too –

But there’s plenty of Tiramisu.”

New year new game.

I'm learning about sales and promotions. The journey of a book from author via publisher and  printer through the distributer and out through the bookshops is complex.

Intrepid celebrating
I spent last year in two halves. First I rewrote The Intrepid Pony Escapes struggling with plots subplots and characters and then I spent six months working with an editor improving the plot, and polishing the grammar.  What a learning curve that was.
I have never been into selling. I have worked in a science laboratory and written scientific reports, I have worked as a carer in the community and I have assisted children in schools but never sold a thing. Well I have flogged the old baby equipment and a few toys but that is not the same as selling a book.
Where do I start? I have three venues lined up although the dates haven't been finalised but what if no one comes? I guess I can use the time to read one of the books I have sitting waiting, though perhaps that's not the image I should present to a potential book buyer.
Whatever happens at least I have a book I can be proud of. I am so glad I didn't rush to publish it as it changed tremendously through the editing, and all those nasty typo's were exterminated, or so I believe!
So this year is going to be an adventure. Somewhere out there are pony lovers who will enjoy my book and it will be super to meet one or two of them in the flesh. So as I start promoting my book I hope it escapes from the shelves and finds a cosy book case.
